This course was co-created by Prof. Douglas Hart and Dr. Kevin Otto.
Refer to: ‘Mechanical Engineering Tools’
This course is offered during the Independent Activities Period
(IAP), which is a special 4-week term at MIT that runs from the first week of
January until the end of the month. The course revolves around students
building and 'racing' their own Stirling engines, which is covered in greater
detail in the projects section.
Three magnificent Stirling engines powered by sun being tested at
Solar Energy Center, New Delhi. These engines were imported from Infinia Corp.
USA, by ONGC for studying feasibility of technology for large scale power
projects. Rated performance of each engine/collector combine, for DNI
850W/sq.m, output is 3KW
